case study: illustrating empowerment
The creation of the brand for International Day of the Girl Twin Cities was a collaborative effort between Rocky Robinson, a product brand amplifying the voices of black and brown girls, and Project DIVA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and uplifting girls in underserved communities. Rocky Robinson, known for activism and advocacy work in the Twin Cities, envisioned a vibrant celebration of International Day of the Girl that would not only raise awareness but also provide tangible support and resources for girls in the community. Recognizing the importance of a strong visual identity to effectively convey the event’s message and engage participants, Rocky partnered with Project DIVA to bring this vision to life.
The strategy behind the creation of the brand identity for International Day of the Girl Twin Cities was rooted in the celebration and empowerment of all girls. Collaborating with our illustrator, Kprecia Ambers, we aimed to craft a visual identity that resonated with the diverse experiences and identities of girls in the Twin Cities community. Our goal was to create a brand that not only captured the spirit of inclusivity and diversity but also served as a beacon of empowerment for girls of all backgrounds. Through thoughtful design elements and imagery, we sought to convey a message of unity, resilience, and strength, while highlighting the unique voices and contributions of girls across cultures, races, and identities.
The brand identity created for International Day of the Girl Twin Cities proved to be a resounding success, culminating in a vibrant and memorable celebration. The event attracted a diverse array of participants and supporters, including the mayor and dignitaries, who joined in the festivities to honor and uplift girls in the community. The brand’s inclusive and empowering message resonated deeply with attendees, fostering a sense of unity and solidarity among all who were present. The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of celebrating and amplifying the voices of girls from all backgrounds, leaving a lasting impact on the Twin Cities community.
The International Day of the Girl, marked globally on October 11th, is dedicated to empowering girls and women, both domestically and internationally. Its goal is to create a world where all girls feel secure and empowered in every aspect of their lives, from their classrooms and communities to their homes.
The International Day of the Girl recognizes the importance of a world where women and girls of all races, nationalities, sexual orientations, abilities, and other identities can live free from the fear of violence and know they can hold any job, run any company, run for elected office, and compete in any field.
